Groblicz 1606 was certified by Vladimir Kitov of Russia as the ¡°typical Maggini style in workmanship and wood¡± and ¡°a fine violin made by Marcin Groblicz in early 17th century. (Registered No. KV-201) It is probably the most famous and important restoration work ever done by Andrea Bang. After having declared ¡®unrestorable¡¯ by many experts, it came to Andrea Bang in the following conditions:

1. Repairs have been done about 3 times
2. Even with rather thin belly and back, the resonance was weak.
3. Due to some problems in the belly, the sound collapses in high tones.
4. Uneven sound balance among the strings
5. Exterior varnish was done with natural materials showing the pockmarks,
but the interior was not varnished

How the Restoration was Done by Andrea Bang

The wood was needed to be reinforced in hardness, so the restoration work was done over 3 months with several layers of careful varnishing and some minor work.
With the restoration, this instrument is estimated to have the value of millions of dollars as the only ¡®alive¡¯ Groblicz.

* Marcin Groblicz (1550?~1609) : born a century earlier than Stradivari and worked as a royal luthier in Poland. He devoted his life to studying string instruments, but only a few of his works remain now. There are 3 violins in POZNAN National Museum in Poland, but they have lost their original sound.
