The world witnessed the revival of majestic tone of the classical masterpieces with natural varnish of the Renaissance era. Maestro Andrea Bang, a violinist and sonic scientist, has succeeded in finding the mysteries of the natural varnishesof the Renaissance era and the materials used by 18th century Cremonese masters.

His natural varnish is the result of his research and development work of 45 years on the materials, mixing formula and varnishing methods of Cremonese masters like Stradivari and Guarneri.
He traveled along the trade path of the varnishing materials in the 17th and 18th centuries. He combed the areas in Gunea, Ghana, Senegal, Gabon, India, Thailand, and many other countries. The hundreds of materials he tested included the excrement of wild insects, sap of tropic trees, spruce cones, coffee beans and others.
The instruments coated with Andrea Bang¡¯s natural varnish show distinctive ¡®pockmarks¡¯ like those old masterpieces by Stradivari or Guarneri. This shows that the cellular characteristics of the wood have been preserved and the wood is in ¡®breathing¡¯ condition.

Maestro Andrea Bang applies different mixing formulas of his natural varnish in accordance with the density, hardness and other properties of the wood frame. While Stradivari used about 7 mixing formulas, Andrea Bang has developed 26 different formulas. Every instrument is coated with 6 to 9 layers of varnish. During each varnish application, the sound is carefully checked to adjust the formula for the next layer.

The color-mixing skills that he learned from great Pablo Picasso helped him produce the instruments of more than 80 mystic colors. That is why Andrea Bang¡¯s string instruments are famous for their beautiful look, as well as Stradivari-like sound.
